tea-3 (640x427)Residents of Quondam Retirement Village and their friends and family enjoyed a wonderful afternoon on Saturday, 23 July, with the Kensington-based Johannesburg Philharmonic Choir.

The choir, which started out as the St Stithians Singers in 1971, had Quondam Retirement Village residents tapping their feet in tune with the music as it performed an hour-long concert for the village’s Christmas in July high tea.

The concert was followed by a delicious spread of tea and sandwiches, cakes and other sweet treats, while the villagers and their guests enjoyed each other’s company.

“This is what we intended for the community centre, which was built last year. It has given our residents a place to socialise and enjoy a wide variety of different activities together,” says Quondam Retirement Village Committee chairperson, Jackie Welch.

Yvonne Tonini, the committee member in charge of the entertainment portfolio, was particularly impressed with the choir’s performance. “It really was quite fun and upbeat, and I thought the performance was outstanding. I hope to see the choir perform at our community centre in the future,” she says.
