On June 29, 2019, approximately 10 children from 1st St Benedicts, 1st Edenvale and 1st Hellenic cub packs visited Thembalami Care Centre where they spent time happily working in the food garden, under the supervision of Amon Maluleke.
Amon showed them how to plant seeds and seedlings and gave them seedling boxes to take home so they could have an opportunity to nurture their own plants. When the children’s seedlings are established, they will be added to the care centre’s food garden.
It was a good day for Thembalami because community member Himkaar Singh arrived to donate 500 earthworms, which will be used in the care centre’s vermiculture initiative. Himkaar chatted to the children about the benefits of worm farming and it was a happy and tired group of cubs who took their farewell a few hours later.
