The Thornhill Manor Probus Club held its Induction Dinner on March 17 at the Rand Aid Association retirement village in Modderfontein. Seventy-six members enjoyed a delicious meal and a chance to interact with their peers, all former captains of industry, professionals and businessmen. Entertaining Robbie Vermont, himself a resident of Thornhill Manor, was MC and special guest was Rotary Edenvale President Pam Kemp. The 2015 President is Desmond Edgar, who was overseas on the night. Vice President is Bob Davies, Secretary Edna Magua, Treasurer Don Gaynam, while Enid Dixon and Jenny Brownson are committee members. Pictured are Frayne Mathijs and Jen Cruickshank, who assisted in the running of the evening; Pam and Archie Kemp and Esme Erasmus (Thornhill Manor Manager).
For they are jolly good fellows… Jen Cruickshank won the Thornhill Manor raffle and accepting her prize at the Rand Aid retirement village’s recent St Patrick’s dinner was husband John Cruickshank (bottom), with a little help from fellow resident Robbie Vermont. The prize was donated by the village’s sewing circle and all proceeds went towards purchasing wool to make much-needed blankets, scarves, beanies and gloves for the underprivileged.
Thornhill Manor residents Terence and Barbara Riley enjoyed the blarney at the Rand Aid Association retirement village’s St Patrick’s dinner on March 12. Held in the village’s community centre, 66 residents enjoyed a traditional Irish meal followed by dancing and Irish coffees.
Elize Raath, the manager of Rand Aid Association’s Thembalami Care Centre, received a R30 000 cheque from Sean Wheeler on March 14. Sean and his fellow East Rand to East Coast cyclists raised money for a number of charities when they cycled from Carnival City in Brakpan to St Lucia in December. Sean’s Dad Mike has been a resident of Thembalami for over two years, and the cycle tour was Sean’s way of giving back to the care centre for the ‘fantastic care he receives’. If you would like to get involved in helping the physically and financially vulnerable residents of Thembalami, or want more information, contact Elize at 011 882 4434 or email@example.com
