The visual art Growing Seeds of Hope exhibition, a thought-provoking exhibition of 15 South African crafters’ work, is now open and runs at the Nelspruit Civic Theatre until 5 December, from 9am to 9pm.

The exhibition is a collection of the top-three winners of the Innibos National Craft Awards from the past five years, since its inception in 2017. It forms part of Bietjie-Bietjie-Bos, the mini festival presented this year by Innibos.

Curators John-Anthony Boerma and Jan Bhuda of Art Aid Africa believe creativity is ‘who we are’.

“The vision we have for the world is expressed through craft. Each crafter and creative has a role as a critic and an ambassador of their society. The work on display reminds us that in each of us, there are intimations of truth, beauty and goodness,” says John-Anthony.

“Through the Growing Seeds of Hope showcase, 15 masters in their fields portray that creativity is a representation of our surroundings and a nourishment of our ideals – a necessity we cannot do without,” he adds.

The types of works on display are wide and varied, from embroidery and ceramics to woodwork, beading and metalwork.

Entrance to the exhibition is free.
